In milestone year, global digital trust association welcomes new chapters and gives back within the communities where it has a presence around the world
Schaumburg, IL, USA—ISACA, a global professional association advancing digital trust, marks its 55th anniversary this month. The industry pillar serving professionals in audit, governance, cybersecurity, risk and privacy has honored the milestone by adding three new chapters, expanding its educational offerings, and giving back during a global day of service.
Just a few months after Apollo 11 landed on the moon in October 1969, seven founders incorporated the Electronic Data Processing Auditors Association (EDPAA) to serve as a resource and community for EDP auditors. Throughout its rich evolution over more than five decades, the association shifted to serve not just auditors, but also professionals in cybersecurity, governance, risk, and privacy—first under the name EDPAA, then Information Systems Audit and Control Association in 1994, and then as ISACA after a rebranding in 2008—launching a robust offering of credentials, conferences, frameworks, courses and resources along the way, including:
- The EDP Auditor publication (now ISACA Journal): first published in 1973
- The Certified Information Systems Auditor credential (CISA): introduced in 1978
- CACS conferences (which evolved into ISACA Conferences): rights purchased in 1985
- COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies): launched in 1996)
- CMMI Institute: acquired in 2016
- SheLeadsTech: started in 2016
Expanding its Presence and Impact
Now with more than 180,000 members and 228 chapters in 188 countries around the world—including new chapters welcomed this year in Pensacola, Florida; Tbilisi, Georgia; and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia—ISACA is continuing to evolve and find new ways to serve its membership. This includes a mentorship program, member-exclusive webinars and content, leadership and career development, and Engage online communities. The association is also looking beyond to the future of the profession, working to expand access to digital trust career paths to young people and underserved communities through the ISACA Foundation, previously known as the One In Tech Foundation.
Advancing Training and Credentialing
ISACA also continues to expand its educational and credential offerings to meet the ever-evolving needs of the professionals it serves. This includes keeping pace with AI through a series of new on-demand AI courses, including the latest—Machine Learning: Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Large Language Models. This joins the recent Machine Learning for Business Enablement course, as well as others on topics such as AI essentials, governance, ethics and audit, accessible through ISACA’s online portal at the learner’s convenience and offers continuing professional education (CPE) credits. The association is also launching the new Certified Cybersecurity Operations Analyst certification in Q1 2025, which focuses on the hands-on technical skills to evaluate threats, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend countermeasures to prevent cyber incidents.
Making a Difference Around the World
In addition to making a difference in members’ lives over more than five decades, ISACA has strived to mobilize its powerful global network for good around the world—including on its annual day of service, CommunITy Day. This year, 109 teams of employees and members in 45 countries spent more than 7,000 hours of volunteer service on CommunITy Day across more than 2,500 activities that gave back to their communities in myriad ways, including:
- Cleaning up litter at a local water park and beach (ISACA Tokyo Chapter and ISACA South Florida)
- Coordinating free local medical and dental check-ups (ISACA Ibadan Chapter)
- Holding a webinar for parents about protecting their children online (ISACA San Salvador Chapter)
- Facilitating a blood donation drive (ISACA Muscat Chapter)
- Visiting a home for the elderly, and singing, dancing and playing games with residents (ISACA Lagos Chapter)
“ISACA’s tremendous evolution and impact over the past 55 years fills me with great pride,” says Erik Prusch, ISACA CEO. “While the association’s stats are impressive, what is most meaningful goes beyond the numbers—the real ways that people have been able to transform their lives and careers, and how digital trust professions have been able to advance to meet new needs and challenges of today’s world, because of the work we do.”
